The cities of Alicante and Elche have the great honour of hosting the World Veteran Table Tennis Championships in 2016, taking the baton from the New Zealand city of Auckland.

Therefore I would like to give you the warmest welcome to our cities and invite you to share with us the joy and harmony of this major sporting event. Remaining loyal to the first motto by Baron Pierre de Coubertin “Citius, altius, fortius”, during the competition Alicante will perfectly symbolize the spirit that has always characterised sport: “the most important thing is not to win, but to take part”, as well as the fact that the most important thing in life is not to succeed, but the desire to achieve self-improvement and healthy concord.

We have been working hand in hand with the city of Elche for a while in order to make this dream a reality, as well as laying solid foundations for the event to take place. It will therefore be a great pleasure for us to count on your presence.

Even though we are currently finalising the preparations for the event, our facilities at the Alicante Exhibition Centre (Institución Ferial Alicantina, IFA, in Spanish) are optimised to practice table tennis, offering athletes all the necessary conditions for an optimal development of the Championship.

Alicante, a warm, open and welcoming city, a pretty Mediterranean spot, invites you to join us at this distinctive and unique high level sporting event, and make an unforgettable contribution in promoting this sport in ideal and incomparable surroundings.

Hope to see you soon.

Mayor of Alicante
